Barry's Relatively Speaking: Just In Time!
Posted on Oct 11, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Rosann shares the following experience.
Last year we had worked hard to establish a family organization centered around an ancestor couple, Walton Kent and Martha Ann Irvin. Everything was ready for our first reunion; the history was written and all the members notified. Not a single picture could be found, however. As far as we knew none existed. We were fairly sure of this because we had searched everywhere. Even though we didn't feel our history was quite complete without their photographs we decided to continue with our project.
When the relatives began arriving for the reunion, some of them decided to sleep on an old sofa of my great aunt's since there weren't enough beds for everyone. When they noticed a paper sticking from the corner of the sofa and then pulled at it, imagine our surprise when we discovered a picture of old Walton Kent himself. A second search in the sofa yielded three other pictures, one of Martha Ann and two of their children.
It seemed a little more than just a stroke of luck to find them just in time.
How proud we were to display them at our reunion the next day.
