Barry's Relatively Speaking: A Circuitous Route
Posted on Oct 20, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Renee' shares the following experience.
Over a year ago, I entered my ancestor's name in the "Roots" Cellar and patiently waited for it to appear in a subsequent issue. This particular ancestor was one which had been very difficult to locate. None of the usual sources had been helpful at all. When his name finally did appear - Manuel Runyon -I received a note from a man in Pennsylvania who told me that a man in Florida had extensive files on the Runyon family and may be able to help. The answer from the Florida contact was very cordial but not very helpful at first. Then I received a letter from a woman who was visiting this man and somehow my name came into the conversation. She said a friend of hers in Hopewell, New Jersey had my ancestor's name in her Bible! When I called her I found that she did indeed have Manuel's name in her Bible with his exact birth date (one of the few facts that I did have for him!) Also included in her Bible was his parents names and their birth and death dates! So, by following a very circuitous route, I found my ancestor practically in my own back yard.
