Barry's Relatively Speaking: A Dream Come True
Posted on Nov 03, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Sherry shares the following experience.
For thirty five years, my husband has kept a picture of his mother. A divorce forced her to return to her native Australia without her two infant sons. Since my husband has always dreamed of someday seeing his mother, I decided to try to find her.
I questioned relatives for information. I learned she had remarried. I received a copy of her second marriage record from Australia. Information told me there was no phone listing for 1982 by that name. I decided anyway to call everyone listed by that surname where she had lived. Even though there were thirty or forty names, I was determined.
I called person-to-person for my husband's mother. The operator asked each person reached if they knew anyone by her name. The second call hit the jackpot! I had reached her nephew. She was a widow and my husband had three half-brothers and a half-sister. I had done the impossible. I had found her after thirty-five years!
The end of this year, will find my husband's mother, his brothers and sister, coming for a long awaited visit. Thanks to genealogy, it will definitely be A DREAM COME TRUE!
