Posted on Nov 11, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. R. Cook shares the following experience.
After searching for ancestors in Switzerland, I found them on my doorstep. I attempted search with genealogist through Swiss Embassy. I made many inquiries through library and genealogy society. 1 sent inquiries with people going to Switzerland. I took early retirement ar.d began to check details. In a clipping my mother had saved, it gave the name of the church where my great grandmother's funeral was held. I wrote to the church and all records had been destroyed by fire. The minister passed the letter on to a retired postal employee. I received a letter from him, giving me the name of my third cousin, and, before 1 could look up the number, this cousin called me on the telephone. He had the family records, having made several trips to Switzerland! I could hardly believe it and he was there all the time. We had lived in the same town for over 30 years. It pays to follow through on details!
