Barry's Relatively Speaking: Dad Fixed It!
Posted on Nov 25, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Susan shares the following experience.
When I first began working on the family history I was having a difficult time tracing my mother's family of Moore ancestors. I asked here if it had always been spelled that way and she assured me it had always been M-o-o-r-e.
It wasn't long before I learned that she was quite wrong. The family had used the name 'Mooers' even into the 1920's. Apparently it was my mother's father who was the first to use 'Moore' rather than 'Mooers'.
When I told my mother about it, she responded, "Imagine! All those folks spelling it wrong all those years until Dad fixed it!"
