Barry's Relatively Speaking: Unusual Names
Posted on Nov 28, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Iva shares the following experience.
I have been fascinated by some of the names our ancestors chose for their children, like Experience, Increase, Silence, Thankful, Reliance, Deliverance, Remember and Preserved!
Probably the most interesting names chosen were in my husbands PARTRIDGE line:
The third John Partridge married 3 Feb. 1709 Anna Pond. She was the first child of Robert and Joanna Pond, and then followed Sarah. The third child was a boy named Robert who died young. The fourth child was a boy named Robert who died young. The fifth child was a boy named Robert who died young. They evidently gave up on Robert and had Ezra, Ichabod, Baruch and Eunice and those boys survived to a good age.
But in the fifth generation, Ezekiel took the prize! He married 27 Feb. 1800 Deborah Harding. Their first child was born 2 Oct. 1800 slightly over 7 months later and was name UNTIMELY.
