Barry's Relatively Speaking: "Wrap It Up In A Couple Of Weeks"
Posted on Dec 11, 2012
Barry's Relatively Speaking shares the personal experiences and stories of genealogists found in the Everton Genealogical Helper Magazine collection on MyGenShare.com. Peggyshares the following experience.
This only happens to others, never to me.
I had been searching for quite some time for my husbands family around the Great Lakes area. This month during the Christmas holidays, my husband had minor surgery and while convalescing at home, he started showing a strong interest in genealogy as I have had since 1979. Last Thursday he decided to accompany me to the Gresham Oregon Branch Library as they had advised me the film I had on order from Minnesota had come in. I glanced through the other film patrons had ordered to see if there would be any of interest to us
and pulled out Dodge County, Wisconsin marriages. I told him what surnames to watch for. Within a few minutes he whispered to me, "here's the marriage you've been looking for." I couldn't believe it! He actually found it. He said, "I don't know what the big deal is with this genealogy, we ought to be able to wrap it all up within a couple of weeks."
I can't begin to imagine the odds of all these circumstances coming together at the right time. It really pays to check all film that is available.
